Any Suggestions?

It has been over a year since we said goodbye to our sweet Kasey girl. I am just now seriously considering making the big plunge into adopting a new puppy into our family. I have never been great at making decisions, especially big ones.

The question: What kind of puppy should we get? I would really like a Golden Retriever but the rest of my family doesn't want a really big dog. I want a dog that will run with me but we all have to make compromises, right? The poodle mixes are adorable but apparently very expensive - Kev doesn't necessarily want to spend a couple thousand on a dog. I'm not sure I do either.

I definitely either want a dog that can be inside or out, minimum shedding and barking, and a friendly, lovable dog. And of course a dog that won't dig, chew, or destroy my carpet- lol. Decisions....... decisions.....

Anyone have any suggestions?

After I figure this one out than we have to think of a name........

My preference is large dogs. What about a greyhound? It would run with you! :o) Can you even find greyhound puppies, or do you just have to rescue them after their racing "careers" are over?

I'm not partial to poodles and other yip-yip dogs, but dachshunds are cute for small dogs. Oh, and I love basset hounds, too. I saw an adorable one at the pet store in our mall a while back.

Maybe check out your local animal shelter, too. I don't know that they'd have many puppies to choose from, but you may be surprised.

My best advice is just choose the one that pulls your heartstrings.

In college, I had a Weimeriner (sp?) She was such a sweet dog. At first, I thought she was butt-ugly but then she got so pretty. Grey with baby blue eyes. She was hyper though, good to run with! But if I were to get a dog, I would want a small little bichon frise or a yorkie. It's hard to decide which breed is good for your family's lifestyle. Maybe a good ole' mix of a dog. That way you get the best of all dogs! Good luck, then the name....a little easier I guess:)

one of my favourite dogs, that we had - was a shepherd/husky mix ... he was only about 50 pounds, not so very big - but just the sweetest dog ever ... totally loyal and loved kids ... :o)
